Butterflies Radio @IndieViews Artist Spotlight, featuring Kaila Picard - 4/1/2013

This week's guest is Kaila Picard, from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Kaila performs a unique style of music, which she describes as "Bohemian Disco," fusing disco, soul, pop and blues. She is also the band leader for an 8-piece band and used to be a synchronized swimmer.

Kaila grew up in Montreal but moved to Toronto to study Jazz. She later discovered that the music scene in Toronto didn't match up to her style of music and returned to Montreal where she has found the perfect fit.

On April 9th she will host an album launch party for her newest release, at Le Belmont sur le Boulevard in Montreal. If you would like to attend the event ($5 tickets), RSVP here

Kaila is not afraid to let her self-described quirky and slightly dorky persona shine throug her material and stage show. While studying jazz in Montreal, she dove into the city's nightlife. "I grew a bad girl edge, and that experience gave me soul, and a dark place to write from," she says on her Reverbnation profile.

Butterflies Radio @IndieViews Artist Spotlight, featuring Natalie Duke - 2/4/13

This week’s guest is Chicago singer/songwriter, Natalie Duke, who was born in Nashville to a family already in the business. Natalie began performing in commercials as a child. The family moved to Chicago, then back to Nashville but Natalie knew where home for her, and her music was and found her way to the windy city.

According to her Reverbnation bio: "Natalie Duke's voice can either break your heart or smash it. Her head voice soars with a plaintive tone so sweet you'll want to cry; until her chest voice smacks you in the face and tells you to stop being such a baby."

When I heard "Gift" I knew right away I wanted Natalie Duke on the Butterflies Radio rotation. The song is completely honest in a way a lot of women wish they had the courage or balls to say. While it is a song about a guy that did her wrong, it still manages to be a song you will definitely want to sing-a-long to.

That came about because I said all Ukulele songs seemed to be happy and upbeat. I then said it would be cool to hear someone do a Metallica type song on the Uk.

According to their Reverbnation bio: "Terry and Ron met at a mutual friend's party in Nashville TN about 8 years ago. After hearing Terry sing, Ron decided to "take the chance of a lifetime" and wait for her after the party, courageously asking if she'd like to get together sometime and "talk about music..." Since then, and I am not making this up, they fell in love, got married, and had a sweet little baby boy named Noah Skye. With Noah as their guide, they moved to upstate New York where they have been joyfully raising Noah, playing music regionally, and recently released their first CD together as a duo, "Caravan", to rave reviews. They are still trying to "catch their breath..."
